My Mother Cries

My Mom, Lillie M. Hess

Our family fell apart So many years ago.
No one knows the sorrow that our dear mother knows.
She loves her children every one, as on her bed she lies
She asks God to save their souls  And then my mother cries.

She prays each night for all her kids She calls out every name
And asks God to take away  Their bitterness and pain
To let them love each other As they did in days gone by
Often times in dark of night I hear my mother cry.

God fill their hearts to overflow With love that's real and true
Give them wisdom to understand They're nothing without you
Let them know the joy Of family bonds and ties
Late at night when I'm asleep I know my mother cries.
